This site is dedicated to the Star Club Junior Squad being developed under the leadership of Community Rowing Coach Ally Satchwill who is part funded by The Harpur Trust, The Poynter Charitable Trust and Star Club.
We have athletes taking part from approximately 8 state schools and 2 private schools in land based indoor rowing through to water sessions and onto a competitive Junior team racing at local, regional and national events including National Schools Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta.
We want more schools and businesses to get involved and come on board – please get in touch to make it happen.
‘This is Olympic Legacy in action!’ – Tim Foster, Olympic Champion
We are supported by a number of corporate sponsors who not only support the Junior programme financially but get involved with the team and Star Club.

The aim is to achieve at the highest level possible from the largest possible ‘pyramid of participants’ and to take that ethos into the schools and classrooms of the athletes involved. The process Ally adopts is inclusive with hundreds of young people getting an introduction to the sport every year. Significant numbers then chose to continue with the sport and all that it brings.
As one Headteacher commented, ‘This provides us with young leaders and role models within our school.’
A hugely significant part of the project is the support for the Community Rowing Coach from The Harpur Trust which provides funding for the cost of the coach. This has enabled a solid foundation to be built and continued support will allow the project to grow into more schools and give more young people an opportunity to get involved.
To do that requires a big pyramid of support – from all of the rowers who participate be it via indoor rowing in partner schools or down at Star Club. Without them we cannot find the ones who are motivated to go for the top and so inspire others to come on board at whatever level they chose.
Star Club, the volunteer coaches, parents, schools, staff – everyone makes a difference and without them top flight sport at any level cannot work.
Part of our ambition is to boat crews capable of winning at the top rowing events including National Schools Regatta, Women’s Henley and Henley Royal Regatta.
So, be part of the Star Club Junior Squad – support it, revel in it, take part in it – not least relish it and enjoy it – come on board and make a difference, you know it makes sense!
Ally is an ambitious individual with a passion for high performance sport. He is highly experienced and has built up a successful squad of junior rowers at Star Club.
His aim is to coach his squads, boys, girls and Under 23s to win at National and International level competitions with the objective to help unlock their full potential as well rounded, ambitious and capable individuals.
