We recently had a very productive and positive meeting with Michael Lavelle, Headteacher of Lincroft Middle School – part of the Federation with Harrold and Margaret Beaufort Middle Schools.
It transpired that Mark Bavington, Community Rowing Coach, is an ex-Lincroft student and things have changed a bit since he was at the school.
We discussed the schools programme, how it could fit with Lincroft etc and were very struck with the positive attitude from Richard Edwards, the Head of Sport; Richard explained that Lincroft had had a thriving indoor rowing set up supported by former Star club rower Ian Percival. He could also very quickly recite the names of a variety of former Lincroft students who had gone onto both the maintained and private schools and continued with their rowing!
We hope to welcome a Lincroft representative to the Woodfines Business Lunch on the 5th February – or the next one!
The programme should make inroads very quickly with the school and their sheer enthusiasm for sport and for rowing as a key part of young peoples education was great to see – and now great to be part of! this is particularly exciting as we are getting to work with school kids who are still out of the exam cycle and have a chance to try rowing, both indoors and on the water, alongside more traditional school sports.
More to come soon…..
Below, without this sort of support from The Harpur Trust our new schools, and hundreds and hundreds of young people would not get such a chance to try rowing – and get involved with a different sport and all that it brings – from Indoor rowing to getting on the water.
